There is nothing more refreshing than when the cold winter air moves out, and the small touches of spring poke through. The sun starts to shine a little brighter, colorful flowers begin to bloom, and we’re all able to peel a few layers off from the winter wardrobe. You’ve done your spring cleaning but something just still isn’t right, which means it’s probably a good time for some organizing! Just because you’ve dusted, and vacuumed doesn’t mean the job is quite done. One of the best ways to feel refreshed is to spend some time organizing as well, and lucky for you, we’ve got some great tips!
Make sure not to pile things in closets to get them out of the way. One of worst ways to organize is to shut things away just to get them out of plain sight. Closets, pantries, and garages can become dumping grounds for anything from food, to clothes, to spring cleaning supplies. This year, go through those spaces and organize what’s inside so that when you do need to put something away, it has a designated spot. Adding bins also makes for a more organized space, especially when working in a small space.
Don’t be afraid to get rid of things that you don’t use anymore. It’s easy to hold on to those old shoes or that jacket that doesn’t fit quite right, but it’s also okay to decided it isn’t serving you anymore. One of the most classic reasons for being unorganized is holding on to too much stuff. You would be surprised at how little we really need, and while it’s okay to be sentimental, holding on to everything creates a lot of clutter.
Don’t go too long between clean outs. When was the last time you went through all of the sauces in the refrigerator, or the cans in the back of the cupboard? Spring cleaning becomes a lot less overwhelming when you clean things out more frequently. It’s hard having to throw away bags and bags of trash, or taking lots of things out to donate, but increasing the amount of times you do a house cleanse can make it a lot easier.
Organizing is not a one-size-fits-all, and everyone has a way to organize that works the best for them. For some it’s one room at a time, for others it’s throwing tons of stuff away, and for others, it’s just getting more storage bins or baskets. Whatever method you find works best with your madness is the right one!
